West Ilkerton is a secluded hill farm bordering some of the most beautiful moorland on Exmoor, a few miles from the coastal resorts of Lynton and Lynmouth.
With its friendly atmosphere, superb location and warm, comfortable accommodation, West Ilkerton is an ideal base for exploring Exmoor National Park and North Devon at any time of year.
We have converted half of our Grade 11 listed farmhouse into a very comfortable self-contained holiday cottage which is furnished to a high standard while retaining the character of an old Devon farmhouse.
The farm dates back to the Domesday Book and beyond.

Our guests enjoy walking, riding, falconry, fishing, cycling, playing golf, shooting, going to the beach, surfing, sightseeing, shopping and eating out, helping on the farm and — most important — relaxing. The romantic king-size four-poster bed in the master bedroom makes the cottage very popular for honeymoons, too.
THE FARM
*Traditional working farm with Exmoor Horn sheep, North Devon cattle, Exmoor ponies and horses.
*Guests are welcome to join in with farm life when it is possible. In the summer, all the animals are out in the fields. The cows are housed in the shed from November to March, and the sheep are housed for lambing during April.
*There are several way-marked walks from the farm, with direct access to open moorland. |

Heating: Oil-fired central heating for up to eight hours a day (times agreed on arrival, and duration negotiable in bad weather). There are electric heaters upstairs and downstairs, which can be used at any time. The Rayburn in the kitchen warms the cottage, too. The central heating is usually turned off in the summer, but it can be turned on if guests need it. |

Pets welcome. We welcome well-behaved pets by arrangement. Dogs are the most usual pets but goldfish, hamsters, cats, stick insects and budgies have stayed at West Ilkerton. No charge is made but we do expect owners to keep their pets under control at all times (no dogs chasing our cats or sheep, please!) and ensure that they do not climb on the furniture. A mop, bucket, floor cloths and a good vacuum cleaner are provided so that owners can clean away all the mud and hairs shed by their pets in the cottage.
Dogs must not be left alone in the cottage. A loose box can be provided if the weather is too hot for dogs to be left in the car.
We don't mind pets staying if we can't tell they've been here. Please clean up after your pet and hoover up any hairs shed in the cottage. We have three hours to clean the entire cottage between bookings, so we haven't got the time (or the patience) to clean up after your pet, especially when it has stayed for free! |

Garden There are no formal gardens at West Ilkerton — I’ve given up planting things for the animals to eat! However, there is an area of grass in front of the holiday cottage with teak garden furniture and a home-made barbecue. There are stunning views up the valleys to the high moors from here. For a more private spot for sunbathing and reading, there is an area of grass and trees above the house. There is a grass area for children outside the back door, with (NEW FOR 2007) a picnic table and a couple of sun loungers. Guests with dogs are requested to keep their dogs from relieving themselves in the play area.
During the spring there are lots of daffodils around the house, and in summer there are hanging baskets full of flowers in the courtyard.
Whatever the weather, a warm welcome awaits you at West Ilkerton |
